You Should Have Asked Me First

Spent a few days in Dilly. Wasn't as hot and sultry as last time, for which I was very thankful, as I spent an afternoon in alleys with one hand against the wall, vomiting. The heat would have just made it far more unpleasant.

The only reason why I was in Delhi again, was to organize the export of the motorbike, and to drop off some of the warm clothing I needed for the mountains. It involved some challenging admin, calling various government departments in Pretoria, faxing, waiting for faxes that never arrived even though Mrs Kumalo assured me she would fax it this very minute, having photocopies certified, picking up and dropping off documents at the motorbike dealer, doing research on the Internet, downloading software to be able to read application forms on the Internet, trying to find an Internet cafe, that had both the software, and a printer that is either connected or loaded up with toner.

I printed out at one place, but the toner was so empty that you could barely make out what was printed. So I show the guy the print outs, so that he can put in a new toner. You'll have to pay for that. WHAT? (all the admin left me a bit on the edge). You'll have to pay for that. No I'm not. Yes you are. But I can't even read it. (Shakes his head) You'll still have to pay for it. There is no way I will ever pay for it - the printer needs a new toner. You should have asked me first. I should have asked you first ... I see ... so you knew that there was no toner in the printer? You'll still have to pay. Why don't didn't you just change the toner if you knew it was empty? You should have asked me first. How am I supposed to know that? Where is the sign that I have to ask you first? The printer is on, the green light is on, there's a sign with the cost of each page, but nowhere does it say that I have to ask you first. There is no way I will every pay for this.

People are turning their heads. He waves his hand and says ok ok relax. DON'T tell me to relax.

Anyway, I got it all done in the end, and watched the England Australia game with three other Indians - we were all supporting England.
