Lolita
Yesterday was independece day, so we had to stay on the boat all day - just in case.
I read a lot of Lolita to Sarita. By now I must have read the book three times - my favourite sections four times already.
Humbert Humbert wants to capture or fix the magic of nymphets. I suppose he manages to do just that, as he has written his memoir ("Lolita"). Nymphets are alive to me now. But he had to go through so much pain to achieve this, and still he couldn't quite hold on to it, as she eventually grew up and had run away from him. And he had destroyed himself. So all he really captured - perhaps - was the journey. And the journey was pain - a paradise with flames. To create real art - is a painful process, but the pain and the process is what is true and what is captured or created in art.
I think.
